Obituary for Merle White Lewis
Merle White Lewis, 90, went to be with the Lord on Saturday December 1, 2018 surrounded by family. A funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December, 3, 2018 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Florence with burial following in Clear Branch Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m.
Merle was born on September 23, 1928, in Rankin County, the daughter of the late Henry and Nannie White. Merle spent her professional life working at Mississippi School Pictures (Jostens Photography) first in the accounting department and retiring as a computer programmer.
Merle was a devoted Christian and founding and faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School teacher, as well as in numerous other roles. She enjoyed God's beautiful world.
Merle was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and in her later years painting. She was known for her kindness and generosity towards others, she loved to help people.
Merle will be remembered for always seeing the positive blessings in life and cherished spending time with her family.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin A. Lewis and her siblings.
She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Bonita Tanton (Dewayne) of Pine Bluff, AR; Gail Patterson (John) of Pearl; grandchildren, Kay Hammond, Mandy Grimm, Amy Patterson, David Tanton, James Tanton and 6 great grandchildren.
